Smart cars

they opened a smart dealership round the corner from me in east smrvl so i went over and had a look. i was kinda disappointed -- i thought they were electric but they're hybrid. and the mileage is not that special -- 33 mpg city. that's no big woop and it runs on premium.

it will do 90 but i'd be scared shitless to take one on the highway w/ so little between you and anything oncoming.

Yeah, regular is bad enough, but premium is through the roof. I was looking at the Minis, but they are expensive. We don't have a local dealer either. I need something as my care only gets 20 which isn't bad for a SUV, but with the mileage I have to put on, its killing me. I use the motorcycle which gets 50 when I can.

i drive a mini, when i bought mine the regular model was 16k and the S was 21k, that is pretty good. i get 30+ mpg and run on the middle grade.

Yeah, I need something that runs on regular otherwise the cost savings on mpg gets eaten up with the price difference. I put on a lot of miles that unfortunately I can't cut down on. I have a 2004 Sante Fe that I bought brand new just over four years ago and have over 160k on it.

the regular mini runs on low octane. i have an S cos i'm a bit of a racer boy ;-D
i should add it's a great fucking car. handles like a dream and not a single problem in the 4 years i've had it (knock wood).

They are not hybrid, they are full gasoline and drive like ass. I thought of buying one but took one test drive and wanted to kill myself. on the other hand the milage on them is 40mpg (or so they told me in dealership) not there yet :(

shit, they are not even hybrid??? as far as the mpg -- they were at 40 on the 2007 test but the 2008 EPA test got them only at 33 city. they must have cried.

my old mercedes gets almost 30 mpg, and runs on veggie oil when i have time to gather it (free) or buy it waste oil that's been processed by someone else ($2/gal) or i can even just run diesel (not biodiesel).

i had a mini too for a while - loved that little car, but i feel better about driving something based on an engine that has examples of going millions of miles (the guinness book record on this enging is 7.5 million!). the consumerism of buying cars is as much as a problem as the fuel efficiency, in my opinion.

just a thought.. for a few K you too can run an old car on reclaimed waste from food processing ;)

I converted an old VW bug to run on baked beans. Well actually you eat the beans and it runs on gas... It's a little stinky but you TOOT right along....
