It's time for.... a CD swap! It's been too long since we did one of these, and I need some new music. :)
Lets make the cutoff at ten, so... I'm #1, and we've got nine more spots to fill. Same as the last time, you can go anywhere with this as you want. You can create one mix and give it out to everyone, you can make an individual personalized mix for each person, you can go minimalist and just write down the track names or get wildly creative with the cover art. Have fun! :)
Once we get our ten people, I'll get everyone's addresses and we can send out our mixes, OR we can have some kind of a CD swap party to exchange them, whatever folks want.
Have a beautiful day....

Re: CD mix swap
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 4:44 PMYes! Anyone can play... you are now #2! :)
So far we have....
#1 - Catling
#2 - Sleepwalking
Next? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? -
-
Re: CD mix swap
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 4:57 PMI wanna play! I'm new to this tribe, that ok? -
-
Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 4:11 AMAbsolutely! First 10 respondents get to play, doesn't matter if you joined yesterday or three years ago! :) It's really cool to hear from new folks... this tribe has been really quiet of late, I'd love to see some new blood breath some new life into it.
OK, so now it's:
#1 - Catling
#2 - Sleepwalking
#3 - padrinho
Come on, folks! We need 7 more people to play the game! If we don't get 10 people, I'll set the cutoff date as March 30 and those of us signed up by then can make our mixes for each other. But it's more fun if we do get a full ten people, because then each of us gets 9 mixes of new music to listen to! :)
You know you wanna... what's not to like? You get to have fun making a mix CD to share, and you get 9 mix CDs from other members of this tribe.

Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 9:20 AMI'll be #5.
Also, I will throw this note out there. I organized 3 of these before and they were all really fun. However, on the 3rd one, my life got really crazy and - horror! - I never sent my mix out. Shame on Shedonist! So... if you were on that last music swap I organized (2 years ago), please feel free to send me your current snail mail address and I will send you this mix when it is complete too. -

Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 12:31 PMYay, Shedonist is #5! Rockin'!

Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 9:24 AMP.S. I think mailing the CDs is the easiest (vs. in person get together).
And for those who weren't around the last time, the basic gist here is that you make a CD of any type of music you like with any level of CD art/decor you like, and you make 9 copies and send those out to the other 9 people. In return, you receive back 9 CDs from other people. Kind of like a chain letter, but with a much better rate of return. -

Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 1:27 PMHmm, I didn't see the new message indicator come up so I didn't come back and check. Yes, yes, I will start putting my mix together. It will be very eclectic as my tastes run from Beethoven to Alice Cooper. -

Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 1:46 PMROFLMAO....
Sir Wolf, you and I are going to get along just fine... my musical tastes are just as eclectic as yours! ;)
Can not wait to see what all of you put together, I love playing this game, it's great fun and you end up with some new music out of the deal. -
-
Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 2:04 PMI love being turned on to new stuff! This'll be fun. I suck at album art, so I hope colored sharpie is good enough. -
-
Re: CD mix swap
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 3:01 PMColored Sharpie is totally fine. Some people just write out the track names in normal pen and ink... some go nuts and make really cool cover art... doesn't matter which is your style, as long as you participate! :) -

And for those of you who have signed up already but not yet sent me your addresses, please send me your snailmail addresses via private message, I'll compile the list of people to send CDs to and send it out this weekend (or whenever I have all the addresses from everyone, whichever comes first).
Thank you! :)
I have my mix ready to go, though I am still tinkering with the cover art.

Re: CD mix swap
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 11:29 AMCover art???? Wow! Okay, I guess I have to get on the bus and get er done. I have just been full out. Time to go upstairs and go through the CDs. Too bad I didn't have one of the USB phono players. Then I could take the songs off of albums. Yes, albums, you remember those vinyl things us old timers used to listen to. Hey, I still got 45's. Johnny Cash, I Walk the Line on Sun. -
-
Re: CD mix swap
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 6:17 AMCover art is not at all required, I just like to go a little nuts with CD mixes. It's perfectly fine to just make a CD and write down the track names, anything you want!
Can't wait to see what y'all have come up with. :)

Re: CD mix swap
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 2:06 AMYay, me too! Jaeger, you totally rock, I'm really enjoying your super fun mix!
My CDs are burned... I'm going to mail them out today. :)
I feel like my mix should come with some kind of warning label. I happened to be noodling around with i-tunes, trying to craft the mix, right at the tail end of a rather hardcore cycle of healing and rebirth. Somewhere in there, the mix became entangled up in that process... so... it's a bit intense. I think it's a good mix, it's just got a lot of Chiaroscuro and is nothing like the playful theme I originally had in mind for this... oh well! I hope you all enjoy it and I can't wait to see what else y'all come up with. :) -

Re: CD mix swap
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 8:08 AMThanks Padrinho and Catling for the great feedback! Reading that it hit the mark with you both puts a big smile on my face. -

Re: CD mix swap
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 8:20 AMThanks to Padrinho, I am now burning my mix. It is truly an eclectic lot, much like my musical leanings. I grew up in a house of music. I have always been a singer, though no one has heard me outside of the extremely occasional karaoke session. My father was a drummer with Big Band style bands, Buddy Braga, Al Rainone, etc. My brother was a drumming natural. He played in a fife and drum core and the other drummers were amazed that this kid would stand in the middle of them and jam away even though he never heard the songs before. Unfortunately he never took that anywhere. He was sitting at the Living Room one time watching Todd Rundgren. He was in the front row and wailing away like he was playing the drums. The drummer noticed him and pointed him out to Todd. At the end of the session, the drummer threw his sticks to my brother and Todd invited them to party back stage. Closest he ever got to pro. My son is drumming now. My daughter was first chair flute until she went out for softball and lost her seat because of the conflict. The mix I am going to send out shows the many styles that I have introduced my kids to. This only touches the surface as it doesn't include swing, my daughter really loves that style, Celtic music which they often went to sleep to, and some of the old be-bop I used to sing as a kid. I often wonder what would have happened if I stayed that route. I wasn't much of a hard rock singer, though I loved Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, and Aerosmith. I was more of a crooner like Bing and Dino. Probably would have done better as a Jazz singer like Harry Connick. The world will never know as my voice has pretty much gone silent.
Jaeger, nice mix. I will listen to it later. I looked over it and was thankful not to see Le Chic. LOL. I used to DJ sometimes in the Air Force and I was okay with disco at first, but when Le Chic - The Freak, and Bush, bush in the bush came out, I threw my equipment in the dumpster and played Rod McClean's, American Pie over and over. The day the music died...... Of course, that was written for Buddy Holly, who was one of my heroes. -

Re: CD mix swap
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 5:44 AMWell, life happened and I didn't get the CDs mailed out yet, sorry about that folks. The next business day I have car access is Tuesday, I'll be sure to do it then. :) (too much of a pain to try to get them to the post office with a baby in tow if I don't have the car)
Wow, White Wolf, a very musical life! Sounds like you're about as eclectic as I am. My father is very musical, he's a classical composer and a big opera and classical music lover, though he also loves to be exposed to new music genres by me. Our favorite way of bonding when I visit is to hang out, drink cocktails and play each other music, sometimes singing along. I hope to instill as much of a love for music into my little girl. She's going to be a little Burner/Raver Queen, I bet, she LOVES techno, and sacred Indian music (from India, but also Native American chants, etc.).
I am a singer, and am currently looking for a good piano teacher in the Boston area as I want to get my chops back and then really start working harder on my music. It's a dream I retired some time ago that came back to life recently thanks to some friends.

Re: CD mix swap
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 5:29 AMI was driving home last night and realized I made an error in the little booklet I added with my CD. I had said a little about the songs including any significance they had for me. Wellll, some DJ, I turned out to be, I wrote the wrong artist to one of the songs. Easy mistake since two of the artists in the later band actually played on the band that did the song. The song was not done by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, but rather with Stephen Stills and Neil Young as the earlier group Buffalo Springfield. Man, the way these guys all shifted around early on, you needed a scorecard to keep up. Another artist that was with Buffalo Springfield who went on to fame was a little known guy named Jimmy Messina who teamed up with some dude named Loggins and the rest is history.
